Firstly you might be wondering why the change inname from djaywunti to Jisas wantaim… well it has been a journey to discover who we are and its almost come full circle. We originally were “Jesus one-time”, that touch footy team that wanted to witness those few years ago at the Festival. Then we transitioned into “djaywunti” which was using J(= Jesus) 1(= one) T (= time) to look Aboriginal way. But then we came across the Kriol Bible and were blown away. This fantastic resource (read story in this edition) led us to read Hebrews 9:28 and it talks about “Jisas wantaim”… so, there you go- back to our beginnings but with a true sense of our identity! Notice we now have both flags, too- very important to us. It has been driven by a people movement and we believe it is the future for ongoing work from and for Indigenous ministries and Christians.

In the last E-stick (November 2009), we indicated that Goma had come on staff for djaywunti 4 days a week. Much of the traction and momentum that you can read about in this E-stick can be attributed to his great efforts and enthusiasm. Goma has been a great blessing to the work of the ministry and his giftings and skill-set are perfectly aligned to the outcomes we are seeking. Goma has been basically pastoring leaders and encouraging ministries through training and mentoring, and the results have been amazing. Goma can be contacted by phone on 0447 046 554 or by his new email very shortly on goma@jisaswantaim.org.au.

This was an amazing event for us on many levels. SURRENDER was a conference, but was also an invitation. An invitation to SEE powerlessness and poverty, to HEAR Godʼs heartbeat for justice and to JOIN with the Jesus who pours out his life in loving the lost and least. It was held near Melbourne on 5-8 March 2010 and we had a strong representation.

Around 16 people attended who were attached to Jisas wantaim and all contributed magnificently. The Crossflow crew did corroboree and worship (and blew the crowd away!). Uncle Graham, Aunty Jean Phillips and Billy Williams were speakers. Harry Whaleboat sung an original song that was fabulous and used mightily by God. All in all everyone was blessed and was a blessing, it was a true highlight. There will be videos available of the presentations and keynote talks, for these and more information visit www.surrender.org.au

The locations are Fortitude Valley (SU QLD Training Room), Fingal (Tweed area), and Cherbourg (South Burnett area).
This initial training , apart from being great in its own right, is also being used to develop a training culture amongst the network, to test the waters for formal accredited training and also as an opportunity to develop leaders and trainers within the network.

As if the training hasnʼt been a blessing, then God really blows us away with an incredible response to the Jisas wantaim Preis & Weship (Kriol for Praise & Worship) night held in Inala in March. We partnered with some of the local ministries and Christians in the Inala area, and ministry support came from across the network to deliver a night that exceeded expectations. There were around 180 adults in attendance (without counting the kids!!!).

There were many non- Christians who came along and all who attended were clearly caught up in the blessing of the event. These are planned to continue once a month in Inala, and plans are afoot to roll out a monthly north Brisbane night. Please pray for Godʼs continued blessing and guidance in these.

The Kriol Bible was many years in the making, with many contributing organisations and people. We purchased a number and distributed them to the various ministries and it has been well received. Those who attended the SURRENDER:10 Conference were also treated to meeting one of the translators, Aunty Milly Sandy from the NT (she was involved in translating the Psalms). She is a wonderful, Godly woman who continues to minister amongst her mob. Please pray for the Bibles and for Aunty Milly.
Of course the Discipleship Training and Preis & Weship Nights will continue to take place, and please pray for a formalised agreement with a Christian Training Provider that is currently being negotiated.

This is a yearly activity for djaywunti where we enter a touch team and also host the Festival Sunday on the mainstay. Festival Sunday is an opportunity to share with those at the Festival through song, dance and testimony our belief in Jesus one-time. This year is significant as we hope to be launching “The Deadly News” the Book of Mark publication that targets urban Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. Its design, language and the testimonies are in the context of appealing to our mob. We are hoping to distribute it as a valuable resource.
